- Amethyst Rose
An uncommon variety of amethyst hue,
her stature adequate, her stalk yielding,
but persistent and thorny to
those who would quash her
curious uniqueness.
Despite the ravages of time and
circumstance to her outer petals…
she finds inner strength from deep
within her folds and somehow
manages still to give.
Her spray is full of abiding love,
commitment and loyalty, but only
for those she deems worthy.
She is a complex beauty with a
delicate sinew and while some
may smile upon her
with ardent unfailing affection…
She is plaintively aware that her
unusual color will never be the
preferred choice of many…
but she has found her place, and voice
among the flowers in life’s garden,
and it is here that she flourishes
with a loveliness all her own
this piquant purple rose.

Lovely, Dani. Really Lovely!
Thank you Katy. I wrote a series of rose poems for a chapter in my second book of poetry, and I had intended to include this one, but the words just never came. Better late than never.
I think I will make a chapbook perhaps of just the rose series, which as you can see continues to grow.

Dani, complex and unique, lovely and strong. Your amethyst rose is beautiful and so is your poem. I’m so happy to have your rose in my garden.
