Blank pages

A lot like life

Are pages with no words

Left to be made of them what we can

Not really a page at all

Just an illusion of imagination

Like life

Made like magic to look like a page

What can I do with this pure white

Untouched dream

That I see here

I want to add to its tender illusions

But all I can do is try

Leave words and thoughts

To make of it what I can

This magic in front on me

Like a clear white sky

I strike a key and words appear

Like seeing my footprints in the sand

Leading ahead of me

To a place I’ve never been

But must follow

It’s adventure to let my mind

And fingers wonder over these keys

Letting the heart do its art

And as I follow these prints in time

I’ll leave this page and move on

Following in my own foot steps

And wishing this page well

 As I do part

And I hope the page is happy

I wish not to play with its purity

And If I can’t improve the page

Like improving life

I should leave it alone

Let it stand in its virgin white

And I should go on home

I made it through college, started at Pace in New York, family seemed to think I needed a business degree. I didn't last long, two double periods of accounting a week and I was off to N.Y. U. To make a long story short ( too late for that) I graduated from UCLA and actually, my biggest kick out of that is just saying, especially here on the east coast UCLA, but I could care less, been in Boston since 1975, though I was coming for a year or so. A very good friend at the time, she said to me "Dan you'll never leave Boston" so dear Florida “Sun Spot Baby" you're down there, been in and out of radio, TV, acting and that's me in a nut shell.

  1. Dan,

Another truly evocative poem. I think you have captured the essence of the writer’s craft no matter what we write.

“It’s adventure to let my mind

And fingers wonder over these keys

Letting the heart do its art”

I have recently neared the point of completion for my book, “A Republic if We Can Keep It.” It is a nonfiction work on politics which is what I write most about. Nonetheless, it was an adventure and the heart was definitely striving to do its art.

    Superbly done!

Larry thank you for the wonderful comment and best of lick with the book. I think it doesn’t matter if we write about politics or love the heart has to be involved.

That’s best of luck, unless you having Ice Cream. :-) wish my heart could learn to type :-)

Got something to say?
