Life is a puzzle we are given to explore,
The trouble is; we are not shown the right door.
Ones that we open can bring pain and disgrace,
Or joy and happiness, for all to embrace.

Which shall I choose, which one is the best?
That’s for you to discover, along with us rest.
Life is a mystery to eyes that are cold,
Open them wide, before you’re too old.

Time passes by, quicker than you think.
One day you’re young, the next it’s all gone;
In a blink.

Then as you are leaving this world on your own,
Never regret the past that you’ve sown.
It was your life to do with, as you so please.
Did you do well,
Ask yourself as you leave!

I am sixty-three years of age, married for the second time with two step-children and three grandchildren. My father died when I was sixteen but had probably summed me up completely by that time. He called me deceitful, and I'm not sorry that he did. I now use that characteristic to tell stories in both prose and, I hope. rhyme. My first novel was published in March 2012. The Desolate Garden is a spy murder mystery with more than a simple touch of romance. It has been likened to The 39 Steps and The Constant Gardener by reviewers and the film producer who's London based Company is converting my story into a film.

    Open Secret 1985
The small brown box is broken
Cherished contents lie in naked relief
    their intimacy exposed and abused.
Words of love and tenderness dissolve
disintegrate in a welter of sodden confusion
A china ornament, its headless shell,
    still enveloped in tissue paper
bravely displays its half buried crayon message
A present to Santa. We love you xxx
    Birthday cards, gifts and treets
    Pictures and postcards
Now scattered ashes and dead memories
A single lock of golden hair lies
    Limp
    Doused in evil stinking urine
    All orphaned secrets now
    Brutalised, destroyed
No video player here, no money nor jewellery in this box
No plastic card or open cheque book
    And no secrets now.

A terrible experience to have to undergo. Well written and expressed Peter.

  3. I try to do spot checks along the way… I don’t want to wait till the very end to decide or make changes accordingly. lol Nice query.

  4. There are patches of sadness here and there as I look back, but truly, no regrets. It would be regretting the person I’ve become and I actually like myself pretty well. And I like Dani’s idea of spot checks!

“Time passes by quicker than you think” Truer words were never spoken, Danny.
