Oh I have walked

By the peaceful waters ~

And I have heard

The forest’s call ~

I have climbed heights

And plumbed depths ~

I have loved and lost ~

And I have loved

Again anyway ~

I have tasted fear

And burned with rage ~

I have known hatred

And still have chosen love ~

These eyes have seen

My baby born

And my father die ~

I have watched the

Day dawn

And the sun set ~

And I have seen the Light ~

Now I see the patterns

And the characters

More clearly ~

I am adept at reading signs ~

Accumulating knowledge ~

For what future purpose

I cannot even guess ~

But in a Universe

Which operates with such

Microscopic attention

To detail ~

I’ve no doubt that

All will be revealed ~

Life is not through with

Me just yet ~

I’ve rapped on Death’s door

And been turned away ~

For my own peace of mind

I must believe there is a

Purpose to it all ~

I began writing poetry in my early 20s, and then put it aside and forgot it. Then a couple of years ago, I suddenly began writing ~ about everything under the sun ~ and I began to write poetry again. Or perhaps I should say channel more than write, since I feel that I am merely the conduit for some of the pieces I write. Those are the best of times, when the words flow, and those are the words which speak to others. Wish I could live in that state all the time!

      Thank you, Cher. I’ve always thought one of my best qualities is that I’m too damned dumb to know when I’m beaten.

      ‘Funny’ you’d pick those lines. They’re my favorite. To give love is a choice, to receive love is a gift, but to love without expectation is a grace. I’m so glad you enjoyed it. :)

    Melody,

    Often you write so beautifully it makes me feel the inadequacy of my efforts.

    This is one such time.

    As I read this, I felt privileged to call you my colleague and my friend.

    Allow me to observe re:

    “I must believe there is a
    Purpose to it all”

    Even if we in our humanity must instill purpose to an absurd universe. Without purpose all is sound and fury signifying nothing. I refuse to accept that as the lot of humankind or anyone of us.

      Larry, I’m just like you, making my way through a universe of words and images that swarm through my brain nonstop. I choose the ones that speak to me and you pick your own, too, and then we share those images as best we can.

      Perhaps your words will resonate with one soul and mine with another, but we are all in this together, sharing our talents with each other and the world and decoding the message as we go. Your ‘efforts ‘ are every bit as worthy as mine, and I’m glad to count you among my peers and friends.
