The scariest house on the block

is decorated every holiday…

and looks like a Kinkade painting come to life.

But inside the welcoming light

are the bitter, hateful seeds of discontent.

It is here that hypocrisy, bigotry, and prejudice thrive.

Right under our noses an often silent majority seethes;

Till they can cast their uneducated votes to harm

innocent minorities and trample the civil rights

of those who don’t subscribe to their beliefs.

In the name of God we all bear the

burning cross scars on our hearts.

One can only hope that their God will strike down

those who commit acts of inhumanity in his name.

  1. Dani, this is strong and speaks to issues directly impacting our society today. The title of “Searing Revelations” is a brilliant play on words. May these ‘”Revelations” be read and understood by those who need to re-think.

    Excellent poem!

Thank you so much Cher for this wonderful review, and for fixing the photo for me. I wrote this about the prop 8 amendment that was happening here in California. We have a beautiful house on our block that was displaying blatant discriminatory lawn bling along with their near perfectly contrived curb appeal. I hope it will make people think. sighs.. :) :)

  3. Dani,

So well put; so sadly true.

A song from my youth – With God on Our Side – contained this passage:

    “The words fill my head
and they fall to the floor.
If God is on our side,
    He’ll stop the next war.”

In like manner, it God is truly on their side, he, she, or it will stop the next horror.

Wonderful expression of what is so very much at stake now and for the foreseeable future.
