Toxicity

Lying, cheating, stealing, backstabbing, manipulative,

energy suckers should never be allowed into your life!

We don’t live long enough to waste even a moment

on people such as these!

Sadly sometimes this includes members of our own family.

Today with your words you sliced open a wound

that has barely had time to heal, and while my soul was

exposed and bleeding attempted to emotionally blackmail

me/us into that which you desire.

I left feeling nauseous, and full of anxiety, reliving

in my mind tense moments from the past…

and while I am sure your intentions were good

I am left wondering if you are becoming part of

the toxicity that I just can no longer take?

Dani, why is it that so much “toxicity” seems to happen within our own families, those who should love unconditionally? This is a powerful poem. Let us hope that those who need to read it will think. Beautifully done!

Cher, I always tell myself we cannot choose who we are related to.. We choose our friends based on things we have in common, what caliber of people they are…. etc. When it comes to family it’s a crap shoot, some of us get lucky and others not so much. I say though regardless of relations… if someone is toxic to you then you have protect yourself. We can’t make anyone change.. they have to want to be a better person themselves, and sadly..sometimes they don’t. I have had the misfortune of having a couple of people marry into our family that have caused all kinds of drama…and they make it hard for normal relations to happen. I guess it’s just the nature of things… sighs… thank you so much for your time and thoughts. You are always so appreciated. :)

Got something to say?
