I know there’s hate, I know we’re weary
I know their plans exclude you and me
Still here we are, the two of us only
Longing for shelter from all the fury
Why should we scurry, refuse to scare girl
Look to the stars and don’t ever stray
We’ve got to fight, on to tomorrow!
We’ve got to fight babe.
What do you say?

Deep in my soul, I’ve felt that only
Seen all my hopes, fading away
I’ve looked for truth, like everyone else does
I know I’ll keep searching, even after today

So there it is girl, I’ve said it all now.
We are where we are babe, what do you say?
We’ve got to fight, on towards tomorrow!
We’ve got to fight babe.
We’ll save the day.

I know it’s late, I know we’re weary
I know their plans exclude you and me
Still here we are, the true and the lonely
Just us and us only

We’ve got to fight, on towards tomorrow!
The die is cast, let’s find a way
Shine forth the light now, come make a stand now
We’ve got to fight babe
What do you say?
We’ll win the day.

This poem is dedicated to my colleague and friend, Mantra Lotus. She walks in beauty like the night, and speaks truth to power. A warrior poet of the first water, and a true champion of a finer and fairer world. For the future awaiting and against the past recurring, we’ve got to fight. For those deprived of choice and those denied a voice, we’ve got to fight. For our children, yours and mine, for fragile hopes of our perilous time, we’ve got to fight. For those who were slain and those who remain, we’ve got to fight. For LeVena, Trayvon, Barack and those we can’t name, we’ve got to fight!

It is time for us all to decide who we are!”
